Waiting on Wednesday

hosted by BreakingTheSpine

I have two books for Waiting on Wednesday this week:

Velveteen by Daniel Marks
Velveteen Monroe is dead. At 16, she was kidnapped and murdered by a madman named Bonesaw. But that's not the problem.

The problem is she landed in purgatory. And while it's not a fiery inferno, it's certainly no heaven. It's gray, ashen, and crumbling more and more by the day, and everyone has a job to do. Which doesn't leave Velveteen much time to do anything about what's really on her mind.

Bonesaw.

Velveteen aches to deliver the bloody punishment her killer deserves. And she's figured out just how to do it. She'll haunt him for the rest of his days. It'll be brutal . . . and awesome.

But crossing the divide between the living and the dead has devastating consequences. Velveteen's obsessive haunting cracks the foundations of purgatory and jeopardizes her very soul. A risk she's willing to take—except fate has just given her reason to stick around: an unreasonably hot and completely off-limits coworker.

Velveteen can't help herself when it comes to breaking rules . . . or getting revenge. And she just might be angry enough to take everyone down with her.
I've been waiting so long for this book to have a cover so I could feature it as one of my Waiting on Wednesday books - and now it has one!!

I am super excited for this one - out October 9th from Random House - aren't you now that you've not only read the synopsis but seen the cover, too?! (Here's the Goodreads page)

and Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
Your mother hollers that you’re going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don’t stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don’t thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not—you hurdle down the stairs and make a run for the corner.

Only, if it’s the last time you’ll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you’d stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.

But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.

Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.
I'm kind of in love with this concept - it's like The Mist meets Trapped and Where the Hearts Is. Dystopia meets what was consumerism sounds ooh so fun. With Macmillan Kids new Facebook page Fierce Reads you can read the first chapter of Monument 14 - and some of Struck by Jennifer Bosworth and some other titles, too!!

Love when I find new, appealing titles and there's a chance to read excerpts, too! (Out June 5th from Feiwel & Friends and here's the Goodreads page)

Those are what I'm Waiting On - What are you Waiting On?
